Cross Country
If character is “what we do when no one is looking” then cross-country is the ultimate test of not just character, but also the heart, mind and will. The sport teaches valuable life lessons such as perseverance, dedication, sacrifice, and hard work. Cross-Country runners live out what Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 9 “I discipline my body, training it to do what it should.”
The head coach, Coach Conway, is passionate and enthusiastic, showing a overwhelming love for the sport and for his runners. He pushes athletes to be their best and to never give up.
Cross-country is perhaps unique in that an athlete can be successful even while finishing toward the back of the pack, though SCA runners are more accustomed to the top end of the standings. The SCA guys team has had 5 Top 3 finishes at State in their 8 years of competition, including last season’s runner-up finish. And the SCA girls have won the last 6 2A State titles in a row in dominant fashion (6 of the first 7 finishers each of the last 2 years) to become the preeminent program in all of SCISA.
And while we cherish the trophies, SCA runners know that our true treasure is in our love for our teammates, our school, and our Lord.
