Spartanburg Christian Academy’s girls captured their ninth straight SCISA 2A state cross country championship on Saturday at Heathwood Hall.

The Warriors topped runner-up Spartanburg Day 25-54 and were led by sophomore Logan Morris, who won her fifth straight individual title by setting a new course and SCISA state record with a time of 17.59. SCA’s Madison Seay placed third with a time of 19.46. The Warriors had six runners finish in the top 10.

Spartanburg Christian Academy made sure nothing was going to get between it and a three-peat.

The Warriors dominated the first two games and rallied in the third to sweep Spartanburg Day 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-19) and claim their third straight SCISA 2A state volleyball championship on Tuesday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena. It was the third time SCA (28-4) swept the Griffins this season.

Spartanburg Christian Academy and Spartanburg Day would rather act like their regular-season volleyball meetings never happened going into Tuesday’s SCISA 2A state championship match.

The county rivals will meet at 6 p.m. at the Benjamin Johnson Arena.

The Warriors (27-4) won both meetings against the Griffins (21-7). SCA is also the two-time defending state champion and has five to its credit.

Spartanburg Christian Academy offensive lineman Grant Wright is the ESPN Spartanburg Hawg of the Week. He graded out at 90 percent without giving up a sack or quarterback hurry in a 46-6 win against Oakbrook Prep.

This past weekend 220 SC juniors traveled to either Seabrook Island or Chapin to represent their Hootie and The Blowfish Chapter. All summer long these juniors have competed against each other on the local level and now they take the best of their chapter and try to win the state title. The 19 Chapters that make up the summer program are split in two, North and South.

Ryan Kincaid was one representative of the The Thomas D Todd North All Stars, hosted this year at Chapin’s Timberlake Country Club on beautiful Lake Murray.  Ryan tied in 2nd place in the tournament.

Nicholas Willis (9th grade) participated in 6 tournmanents this summer.  He won 4 out of the 6 and led points in his chapter.  He was named Spartanburg Chapter Play of the Year!

Congratulations Nick!
