Congratulations to our Girls Track Team! SCISA State Champs!

The SCA track teams had their best day of all time at their State meet on Saturday.

The SCA girls won their 6th title in a row- edging Palmetto Christian 47-46.  It came down to the last race of the day, but SCA prevailed.

Here are some of Coach Conway’s comments to the team summarizing the day’s events and highlighting some key performances.

  • The girls scored 47 points (2nd best ever), the boys scored 38.5. (We scored 20 last year.)
  • Logan Morris won 3 events for the 4th year in a row.  She also set the SCISA record for the 2 mile and she broke the 1 mile record as well.  (It was broken the next race.)
  • Madison  Seay had an incredible day.  She not only won 2 events, her time in the low hurdles was better than the SCISA 3A champ.
  • Jessi McCurry is simply amazing.  She won the shotput and had the best mark in ALL of SCISA.  (Better than 3A!)  And she finished 3rd in the discus.
  • Our girls 4x8 team was special- Burgy, Courtney, Hannah Ward and Taylor all ran quality legs and got the win.  There were some qualify competition, but each girl did her job.
  • So many heroes- Taylor, in her final race, beating 2 girls who had already beaten her in the mile.  She ran her best time of the year even though it was her 3rd race of the day.  She came up big when it counted.
  • Shelby was also a hero.  She was feeling sick but still ran close to her best ever to get 2nd in the 400.  Then despite feeling really awful, she somehow got 3rd in the 200 for 1 valuable point.
  • Our girls 4x4, even without our best 400 runner (Shelby) still ran our 2nd best ever.  We beat last year's winning time by 3 seconds.  Logan, Madison and Kaylin all ran their BEST splits ever, and Hannah tied her best of the year.  If we had run mediocre, the other team would have beaten us and we would have not won the title.
  • The girls 4x100 really came through.  We had 1 bad handoff but still ran a school record and we were awarded 1 big point. That was Shelby Wright, Kallie Hall, Putt and Alyssa Bryan.
  • Kaylin had her best day ever as a Warrior.  She improved her high hurdles time by a full half-second, and her time in the lows would have placed her 2nd in 3A.  2ND!!  Her time would have won 2A in most years.  Very impressive!

Overall it was a very special day- the best day ever in SCA track.
Thanks to the coaches- Coach Baldwin, Coach Ericson, Coach Anderson and especially Coach Turner.

SCA track and cross-country has now brought home a total of 20 trophies in its 11 year history.
