SCA Girls Capture Fifth Straight State Title

Spartanburg Christian Academy captured its fifth straight SCISA 2A/1A girls track and field state championship with a 56-30 decision against Palmetto Christian on Saturday afternoon in Charleston.

 Logan Morris led the way for the Warriors by winning four events including the 1,600- and 3200-meter races. SCA won eight of 11 running events, as well as, the shot put.

 “I’m so very proud of these athletes,” Warriors coach Steve Conway said. “After four titles, I was worried we would be complacent but the girls worked even harder and we fielded our best team ever. It was a wonderful day. We had so many heroes today.”

 “It was a rough day, but we worked through it,” Morris said. “Everyone gave their best, and we were able to defend our title. We are excited.”


Other news from track at state:

•    The girls scored 56 points to win their 5th consecutive State title.  It was the most points ever scored by a SCISA 2A team.
•    The guys scored 20 points and finished 3rd.  That is their best showing.
•    Logan Morris won 3 State titles and was named the Most outstanding athlete in SCISA 2A.
•    Shelby Wright won 2 state titles and set the school record in the 200 meters.  
•    Madison Seay and Jessi McCurry won one title.  And Taylor Morris and Hannah Ward finshed 2nd in their races.
•    Courtney Trammell, Madison Burgess and Kaylin Rogers were a part of winning relay teams.
•    On the boys side Ben christopher won brought home 2 State Championship medals.  He won the 2 mile and 1 mile race.  He was the 2nd highest scoring athlete in all of SCISA 2A.
•    Isaac McCullough and Derrick Hackle finished 2nd in their event, and Luke Johnson finished 3rd.
